Blackheath Soldiers Memorial Park is an historic district park which hosts an outdoor swimming pool, playgrounds, ponds and the Rhododendron Walk which commemorates the WWI soldiers.
The new amenities building, with inclusive facilities, is located on an accessible path. The design draws heavily on the existing built heritage. The arches set up vistas into the park, referring to the traditional English park tradition of framing scenic views. The hipped roof steel pergola, invites daylight and warm sunshine into the building. The layout is flexible to allow for future extensions. Materials are chosen for their links to the existing historic structures as well as durability and ease of maintenance. The design balances requirements for a building which can be fully secured at night while also achieving an open and inviting facility by day.
